Casting directors for an indie film are looking to fill several feature and background roles. The film is about a young woman that moves to New York after college. She is searching for new friends, new opportunities, and a fresh start. All of the filming will take place in Downtown Detroit to mimic New York City.
Indie films often have a huge impact on actors, directors, and the industry. Many indie films start out with small goals to be featured in local film festivals. Some of these films exceed expectations and make it big. The latest indie film to do this was the 2014 horror film, It Follows. It Follows was filmed in Berkley, Birmingham, and Detroit, Michigan. It started out as a low-budget film aiming to enter a Detroit Film Festival. It ended up making 20.6 million in the box office and several nationally recognized awards.
As an aspiring actor you want to take every opportunity you can to gain experience. It doesn’t matter if the role pays well because you will be rewarded in experience and connections. Plus you never know, your indie film might impress millions of people and end up like It Follows.
